This Nigerian loincloth is a beaded cloth measuring 18 inches long by 8 inches wide; the cotton rope tie measures 36 inches. The cotton rope is threaded through the bead cloth and has 9 inches of twisted cotton rope as a belt tie on either end. The beaded cloth is made out of dark blue, light blue, white and orange glass seedbeads. There are 37 cowrie shells tied with cotton rope atop two red or white glass beads. The pattern is a middle row of diamonds and on either side there are triangles; some of the top triangles contain a beaded white diamond. In beautiful condition, this Nigerian loincloth is of indeterminate age, but probably is from the mid 20th century.
