The long, tubular antique brass beads on this strand are actually old Nigerian hair adornments! Based on the condition of the brass, these were likely made and used in the early 1900s, if not earlier. The brass pieces measure approximately 29 mm long. Spaced in between these cylindrical brass beads are round antique "Sherpa coral" beads from Nepal, circa early 1900s. Sherpa coral beads are glass beads that have been molded and dyed in such a way as to imitate certain types of coral. The red-ish orange color of these Sherpa coral beads makes it appear as though these glass beads were made to imitate rare red coral. Altogether, this is a really fun and intriguing strand with a fascinating history! It would certainly yield lots of exciting creations, but could also be great restrung and worn with the beads it already has.
