Cheryl has been working at S & A Beads for over 10 years and can be found in the store Wednesday through Friday.
Learn to work with the essential tools of bead stringing – clasps, crimps, ear wires, headpins, and other finishing techniques. For three hours our bead shop is yours to explore! Use any of our thousands of beads to learn the basic skills and make your own special creations. You only need to pay for the creations that you decide to take home. Students are usually able to complete a necklace and earring set within the class period.
Bead Stringing II: Concept & Design | Class Fee $45
Prerequisite: Bead Stringing I and/or previous beading experience
This class is the next step up from Fundamentals I, in developing your unique jewelry. This class focuses on the techniques of knotting, tips on measurements, and why things look better in odd numbers. This is a great class for pearls and other small beads. You learn the “in’s” and “out’s” of designing jewelry, which leads to a better understanding of concept, or the “idea” behind the piece. Participants will walk away from class knowing three techniques of knotting; the slip knot, heavy cord and silk cord.
Wire Wrapping I: Beginning Metal Work
Class Fee $50.00
Our beginning metal wire wrapping class teaches many important basic skills. In this class, students learn how to make a pendant by wrapping a stone; how to shape and hammer wire into elegant pendant designs to put on simple necklaces; and how to wrap beads around wire in order to make a beautiful, textured piece of jewelry. Students learn a variety of skills that open the door to many new possibilities with jewelry design! Many of our students continue taking classes together in Wire Wrapping II after they take this class. The class fee includes wire of various gauges (thicknesses) and an assortment of beads and stones to use in students' projects. This is also a great class for students to bring in their own special beads, stones, shells, etc. to incorporate into their projects.
Wire Wrapping II: Wrapping Organic Objects | Class Fee $50
Prerequisite: Wire Wrapping I and/or previous metal work experience
This class is a fun and creative way to think outside your standard box of beads. Express your design ideas through free style wire wrapping of stones, shells, arrowheads and other organic objects. Wire wrapping is one of the loveliest ways of converting that beautiful and unusual object into wearable jewelry combined to make a statement piece. We encourage you to bring pieces you may have to wire wrap. More advanced techniques of wire use are also taught in this class - including hammering metals for a great texture, hand- made metal clasps, and even your own wire rings.
