This is a great 30" strand of Russian blues. These beads are in mixed condition -- with about half the beads glowing with that quintessential Russian Blue look (dark cobalt blue in the middle and getting paler at the ends). The other half are more worn, with striations from long wear. Note that many of the beads are chipped at the ends. However, there are at least 8 beads that are in really good shape!
Russian Blues are actually made in Bohemia, but get their name from the fact that Russian Fur traders reputedly preferred to trade these blue faceted beads in the late 18th through the 19th century in Alaska and the Pacific Northwest. These particular beads were traded to Africa. The beads measure on average 37 mm long x 13.5 mm in diameter.
