Museum Quality Turkoman Carnelian, Gold & Silver Necklace

This is an amazing silver necklace with large carnelian cabochons, and gold adornments from Turkoman.  It's hard to describe just how beautiful this necklace is -- the piece basically glows, with a beautiful central larger pendant, and then eight side pieces (each a beautiful work of art in their own rights).

There are several things that make this necklace so great:

  1. The quality of the work and materials is just top-notch.  The carnelian cabochons are impeccable, the gold work is beautiful.
  2. It is very hard to find vintage necklaces of this type in one piece.  There seem to be no missing pieces or replacements anywhere in the necklace; and the carnelian pieces all appear original (we often see them with modern glass replacements.)
  3. The necklace is completely wearable.  So many of the large Turkoman pieces are simply too heavy to wear.  This one could actually be (boldly!) worn in a variety of situations.  Sure - it makes a statement - but it is functional jewelry.

The necklace weighs just shy of 500 grams.  While it's hard to date Turkoman jewelry accurately, we estimate that this necklace is from the early 20th century.  Note that there are little bells that hang down the front, but honestly, they don't make that much noise when you wear it.

The necklace has approximately 10 inches of braided chain at the top, and then 11 inches of gold/silver/carnelian side panels on each side.  The center pendant measures 5 inches wide by 3.5 inches tall, plus between 4 and 5 inches of bells suspended on gold and silver links.
