Batik Tree Strand

This is a strand of beads made from cow bone in the Kenyan style. The bone has been dyed using a method called "batik". The white areas of the bone beads have been covered with wax in order to prevent the dyeing of the entire bead, creating a striking black/white pattern. All beads are hand carved which gives each bead an irregular shape. These beads measure approximately 25 mm long x 24 mm in diameter. Strands measure an average of 18 inches long with an average of 18 beads.
