Trade
Beads
Are you a
bead collector? Check out one of these trade beads from Africa.
Trade beads are true to their name. They were an important part
of currency used in trade between Africans and Europeans. The Europeans
loaded their ships with beads and "trinkets", among them
these beads, and traded them in Africa for gold, coffee and natural
resources. The trade started in the 1500's from Venice, Amsterdam
and Prague, and petered out around 1950. These beads are mostly
from the period of 1880 to 1940 leaving great authenticity and beauty.
