Hmong Tribe Silver Burro Pendant

Hmong3

Look at this charming little guy!  (We named him "Wally".)  Beautiful little silver burro, made by the Miao Hmong tribal people, an ethnic group from the mountainous regions of China, Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand.  This light-weight pendant has a nice puffy three-dimensional quality, with really lovely detailed designs hammered into the silver (known as "repousse") work.  The pendant measures a little 2 inches wide and 1.5 inches high.

We think the burro is probably a silver alloy (somewhere between 40 - 80% silver, giving the nature of the designs and the patina), and we think it is vintage, but it's hard to say for sure!  Really beautiful!

The silver chain hanging down from the burro's belly is an interested design challenge -- it could either be cut off or incorporated as a dangling element, or used to hand the pendant upside down.  There is also a hole in the top of the pendant, but it's only at the top and does not go through.
